So you tried MegaTen and it floored you as to how advanced it is, well you are not alone this is one of the most intimidating game types the type of game where you decide your won fate. However it does not have to be a intimidating experience Taking it one step at a time can be the difference between being overwhelmed and building a successful character.
Step One: what kind of fighter are you?
the first and most Important step is deciding rather in the end you want to attack form a distance or up close and personal, Pick your weapon as eater melee or long range. Your choice in weapon WILL determine what status you want to invest in. Now unlike most games in Megaten it is possible to be a Jack of all triads but in the end part of the game you will be so weak in every field being a master of a species set of skills is impossible.
Good thing Megaten has a item just for this occasion, On my character I intentionally distributed the status wrong to show you a "jack of all triads or "Target Practice" character status set. Flowing these-easy steps will help you fix any stray stats and prevent being target practice later on.
Step one: Know your status
Knowing your status is simple here is what they do.
- Strength: Increases the damage you are able to do with Melee weapons.
- Magic: Increases the damage you are able to inflict with spells.
- Virility: Increases your maximum HP and adds to physical defense.
- Intelligence: Increases your maximum MP and adds to magic resistance and support.
- Speed: Increases the damage you are able to do with long-range weapons.
- Luck: Increases chances of landing a critical hit, decreases chances of being struck by a critical hit, decreases chances of being affected by a status ailment, affects the loot dropped by mobs.
While it is tempting to just go with luck keep in mind it isn't the best plain of attack the demons in MegaTen are another defining factor in how successful you are as a character. If you define the wrong status don't worry, there is good news and bad news about this.Good news you can fix it, Bad news you have to make the item in your item mixing menu.
Item Mixing
first go visit the nice lady at the Home III Clinic ( the door is marked with a green cross) and pick up the item mixing tutorial when you are done with that you will have the recipe Hourglass of the Forgetful (this item will reset your Status up to level 30, after level 30 it will no longer work for you so be careful when distributing points.)
Should you choose to, note that learning more mixing recipe's May not be worth the invested skill points Choose carefully before deciding rather or not to spend expertise points in Medical Science.
Its a good thing to make a note of the symbol, for players who don't wish to learn Healing Magic this place is a source of Medicinal supply's for you and your Demons. Plasma Farming: Remains of Tokyo
Now that you know a little about your status its time to gear up your character; Farming plasma is a quick and easy way to earn a few thousand Macca (the forum of currency in Megaten) you can pick up a tutorial with more in depth explanations form the guard by the Storage terminal near the exit of Home III as well as a introduction into the crafting part of Megaten. You will be sent to the Home III camp to complete this quest as well as receiving your first Flue Tank. In conclusion this is a very quick easy and worth the detour Side quest and Is highly recommended you accept.
Expertise and Your style
before you decide what exact forum your fighting takes have a look at our Chain Expertise If you want to just be a master of basics and let your demon do the talking it never hurts to remember Jack of All Trades is not a Ideal class to be in this game. The image shows you a good example of my Unique Gun Mage class I like to call a Gun Sage because the secondary attack method is using my demon her magic being more focused on the Healing as oppose to Destructive or bless categories.
Because Macca is easy to farm I recommend you spend a little time to pay around using Items from the magic shop or expermenting with the weapons becfore choosing a particular path. There is no real need to LEARN magic unless you plain to have some advanced magical ability buff and curse stones can help delver a nasty shock to your targets in the wilderness but they can also tell you rather or not that style feels right. To start thou I would just stick with basics, At least till you get the hang of rather or not you want to use magic with a weapon, just the magic or just a weapon.
Class mimicking is also a good way to decide what to do for your skills, you can also look at the skills for the expertise by clicking the green box, the skill fire is already given to you you do not need to grow destructive magic to learn it. To grow a expertise simply click the gray box a red triangle will appear this means the skill will pick up expertise points as you fight or use it. to stop growing a skill click the box again. You can toggle the skill on and off to level it.
Some skills will require you to visit a NPC to level them, in Shinjku Bable there is a young man who will teach you skills like Bless,Magic Control and others in exchange for items. Make no mistake these items will have you spending the entire day dungeon hoping. But your effort is not for naught, the rewards are well worth the efforts.
